Welcome to the world's best cricket tour nation (in our view!!) on a cricket tour that does not come often enough. Sri Lanka is inexpensive, relaxed, and abound with stunning beaches, glorious hill country, ancient ruins, lush plantations, slick golf courses, and beautiful train journeys. These with a dynamic capital, fabulous food, awesome people, rich culture, cracking cricket, and convenience of nothing ever being too far away. It's like (in size) having a Test Cricket Tour in Tasmania, only smaller, and a lot more fun. The colour, brass bands, music, and excitement of the people make any game in Sri Lanka a joyous spectacle.
When you join our Australian Cricket Tour of Sri Lanka 2022, it will have been 6 years since Australia was smashed 0-3. It is never easy to win in Sri Lanka, but we are always excited to return and look forward to yet another amazing Sri Lanka Cricket Tour from the 3rd week of June to the 2nd week of July.
As we look to June 2022, excitement is tempered by only playing 2 Tests & 5 ODI's. Without a 3rd Test, we won't have 'the usual' 4-5 days break during which we love to spend in the hill country. Suddenly, what is often a grand 4-6 weeks adventure is whittled to barely two weeks, a time based on most people always coming for 3 Tests, and more!
Open to all eventualities, we've created Test Tours for Colombo, Galle, & Kandy, whilst we wait to see where we play. We appreciate many have toured Sri Lanka with us many times since 2004 and may not want to see 'Sigiriya Rock' or 'Yala National Park' or 'World's End' yet again. Many will return simply for the cricket and great company of others so we will not include day trips, but will help with any preferred sightseeing you may want.
With virtually everything accessible from virtually everywhere we play cricket, we focus on bringing awesome people together at the game with relaxed and enjoyable cricket tours that include match tickets & hotels . We leave you to decide where in Sri Lanka you want to explore away from the game, if not with us. If you want to be truly independent, we have our match ticket and dinner only tour.
This said, for the first time we have a 4-night trip to Sri Lanka's northern-most tip, Pedro Point, and Jaffna, via Sigirya Rock and the ancient city of Anuradhapura. This is in addition to a 3-night Tea Country Tour because (we believe) you cannot visit Sri Lanka and not take two spectacular train journeys;Colombo to Kandy and from Kandy to Ella via Nanuoya (for Nuwara Eliya (pronounced as one-word: noo-ray-lee-yah)). Without counting the magical train journey from Colombo to Galle!
These optional trips will be confirmed (or not) once we know where and when we are playing.
As before, those not so keen on the game can still join us on this beautiful tear-drop idyll that delights everyone with a wealth of action, attraction, and gracious hospitality. Whilst you are at the cricket, your better half or your mum (we have hosted many mums (and dads) over the years) can be lazing by the pool or beach, shopping, perhaps enjoying Sri Lankan cooking lessons, yoga classes, ayurvedic therapy, or simply sightseeing. There is no shortage of ways to invest 2+ weeks in Sri Lanka without cricket. Especially with the swiftness of travel.
For us, Sri Lanka is the best Cricket Tour nation for the ease in which to travel. You can only fly into Colombo (direct from Melbourne!) so any late change of cricket venue will not influence your arrival. From Bandaranaike International Airport pre-paid taxis will take you anywhere in the land.
Once in Colombo, getting to and from the capital is easy with several daily trains to Galle & Kandy (among other places), and rickshaws, buses, and ride-sharing apps in abundance to whizz you through or even between cities.
If you want to travel tip to toe in a scoot, Cinnamon Air seaplanes fly the length & breadth of Sri Lanka; from Colombo, flight times of 25mins to Kandy, 35mins to Koggala (Unawatuna), or 35mins to Sigiriya Rock can carve 6hours off the road trip, whilst creating an incredible visual experience.
We know two test matches is simply not enough to embrace Sri Lanka to its 'touristy' fullest, whether we include sightseeing or not. It's easy when we must take the train to Kandy or Galle for the cricket but creating 'add-on' trips that may not suit everyone's timetable before or after the cricket creates a blip.
In Sri Lanka 2022 we will have 8 nights in each city. These include 2-nights before the Test Match and 1-night after the Test match before we travel to the next city. All rail or road travel between cities will be included, as well as return (group) travel to Colombo (if required) after the 2nd Test.
Our preferred hotels, which we have stayed before, are a grand old colonial lady in Kandy, an ocean view hotel with a rooftop infinity pool & bar in Colombo, and a gorgeous beach resort in Unawatuna (Galle)*. Airport pick-up will be included no matter what time you land in Colombo. With developed road networks, you can be in Kandy and Unawatuna in 2-2.5hrs, eliminating any need to stay at Goodwood Airport Hotel for one night, as we did in years past.
*Following our 'research visit' we may change hotels based on quality vs price vs inclusions. New hotels become old, and old hotels shut down!
Like all of our Cricket Tours, if you're travelling alone and happy to share a room with one other person to keep your budget in check, book 'twin share' and we will partner you up. If you prefer more privacy, book 'single' and if travelling as a couple, book 'double'.
