The English crowd at Edgbaston are referred to by the England Cricket Team as the '13th man' thanks to their vocal presence, spurring England to success or almost. We love Edgbaston for the game's colour, excitement, and vibrancy, and where you may see more French maids & Cardinals, than support staff. Whatever the result, you won't be down with Edgbaston's atmosphere or the buzz on Birmingham's famous canals, Broad St, or Brindleyplace.

If you fly Qantas Airways to the UK, reaching Birmingham from London Heathrow is best done by coach (bus) straight from the airport, which can be booked online. From Digbeth Coach Station in Birmingham, Hilton Garden Inn is a short taxi ride or easy 30mins walk through the city, along Broad Street to Brindleyplace, a place to be and be seen.

We selected Hilton Garden Inn, yet demand may bring us to add a second nearby hotel.

Depending on when you arrive in the UK, you may want an extra night in Birmingham before or after the test, so let us know. The pre-test match function on June 15 will leave the hotel at 4pm (TBC), so be ready to go. The function is included and hosted by Cricket Australia Travel Office so you'd be mad to miss it, though it is not obligatory.

You will receive your match tickets at the hotel, but we'll communicate this well-before you arrive in one very cool city, nestled around more canals than you find in Venice. Enjoying apres-play beverages along Regency Wharf at famous Tap & Spile, perhaps the Brasshouse, Pitcher and Piano, or The Alchemist, or even the cheesey Walkabout, covers five of your six nights in Birmingham, all less than 400m from the hotel.

Reaching the game is best done by foot, as traffic around Edgbaston can make bus or car travel even longer than the casual 40mins stroll. Edgbaston is 3km from the hotel. You have reserved seats so there is no rush to get there.

Should the test end early, after a celebratory night of Australia going 1-0 up, a canal boat trip through the countryside has always been a favourite of ours, though many like walking tours of the the city, if not walking a round on one of the many nearby courses.

Checking out on June 21, if you need to reach London, a plethora of rail and coach services take all but 3 hours to the capital. With 7 days to invest before the 2nd Test at Lord's, a trip to a famed European capital or two can fill the gap nicely.
