Our favourite venue for watching cricket in England has our least favourite Ashes moment. Australia had the chance to 'win the Ashes' in 2019 yet failed to snare England's 10th wicket, a 76 run partnership getting England over the line; after Australia rolled England for 67 in the first inning.

Filled with great northern passion and a parade of costumes on 'dress-up day', Headingley is a fun ground to watch cricket, before hitting The Original Oak just up the road if not racing home to hang out on frenetic Boar Lane.

History says flying to Leeds from Heathrow is cheaper than taking a train, however British Airways haven't yet reintroduced this service, but keep an eye out! Otherwise, Park Plaza Leeds is a 2min walk from Leeds Railway Station, remembering trains from London to Leeds depart from King's Cross Station.

Arriving the day before the Test on July 5 means you need to arrive in time for the pre-test match function, hosted by Cricket Australia Travel Office. Transfers will be provided from the hotel at 4pm (TBC). If you need extra nights before or after the test, please ask.

Now you are in Leeds, our newest home is on Boar Lane. Aside the station, it is a short clip off the pads from the pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, greasy spoons, and activities that run late in the night in this cool northern city, home to many famed pedestrian malls, and shopping arcades, such as County Arcade (above).

You don't need to 'go shopping' to appreciate the renovations and detail of these unique attractions, but when doing so visit Leeds City Market for a kebab at Mdeena. A few of those will make you look forward to walking to the game.

It's a 45mins stroll to this small ground buried in the burbs of Headingley, though you can take a bus which may take considerably longer. Certainly getting home will as a session at the famed Original Oak straight after play is the usual way forward, before going back.

If Australia bowls England out for 67 in the first inning again, and the game ends early, Leeds is home to the arts with a wealth of galleries and performances through the day and night to fill your time. Otherwise, 25miles north east is York where a visit to their famed cathedral should be on anyone's calendar.

With 8 days holiday before we hit Manchester, have quality time in Ireland, Portugal, Spain, or Amsterdam, to name 4 destinations with direct flights from Leeds Bradford Airport. Eitherway, we say goodbye to Leeds on July 11, with Australia 3-0 up and an Ashes Urn with a boarding pass to Jolimont.
