There is no more 'in demand' venue to watch test cricket in India than Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, Dharamsala. We receive more enquiries about touring Dharamsala than we do an Ashes Test at Lord's.
Following the move of the 3rd Test of the Australian Cricket Tour to India 2023 from Dharamsala to Indore, with less than two weeks notice, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) arguably 'owes us a Dharamsala test match'.
That doesn't mean we will play there.
Cast your mind back to the Australian Cricket Tour to India 2001 and the near-forgotten Eden Gardens, Kolkata, where India pulled off the miracle win. That test match should have cemented an Australia India Test at Eden Gardens for eternity.
25 years since, we still haven't returned.
Soothsayers for a quarter of a century have told us, 'We'll definitely play at Eden Gardens', so just because the BCCI owes us a test in Dharamsala, doesn't mean, 'We will definitely play at Dharamsala'.
The BCCI has no legacy, tradition, or sympathy attached to schedules, so it will be luck of the India Gods if the Australian Cricket Tour to India 2027 includes the world's highest and most beautiful test venue, 60mins flight north of New Delhi.
Those on our Australian Cricket Tour To India 2017 still wax fondly about Dharamsala's maiden test match, which is one of India's more difficult places to tour, with limited hotels, limited flights, and no railway!

This lower-priced tour includes airport to hotel transfer, top-shelf match tickets, 3 Star hotel with pool near HPCA Stadium, breakfast & dinner daily, cool apparel, and pre- & post-test drinks function, with an ACT guru at the hotel.
There are excellent lower-priced hotels across Dharamsala, but looking at the map it is not easy to see (aside winding roads) that Dharamsala is on the side of a mountain range. As convenient as many places look, they're a very heady walk (one-way) uphill and there are no rickshaws at the bottom!
Our very comfy 2023 hotels, with rooftop restaurant & bars, are an easy 10-15mins strolls to the game. However, just like our 5-star hotel, there aren't hundreds of rooms. With only two dozen rooms, it is very much first in for best available.

Helpful Dharamsala Pointers
- There are up to ONLY 4 daily flights from New Delhi (and one from Chandigarh) to Dharamsala. Thus you may need one night at Indira Gandhi International Airport New Delhi before flying the next day to Dharamsala.
Search Flights to/from Dharamsala:
- If you wish to take Indian Railways to Dharamsala, nine trains per day operate from New Delhi to Pathankot, taking as few as 5hrs 15mins. From Pathankot, our man Rahul will taxi you 85+ km to Dharamsala

Dinner is included nightly, so no worries about where to dine. Play finishes at 5pm (90 Overs In One Day won't be bowled by 4.30pm) so you will have plenty of time to get home for debrief and cocktails before dinner.

- If you're living in McCleod Ganj and need to collect match tickets from our hotel, take Dharamsala Skyway (above) to Kotwali Bazaar (Lower Dharamsala) and then a taxi (booth below). Skyway operates ONLY 10am - 5pm, so staying in McCleod Ganj and 'commuting' by Skyway to the cricket is kiboshed by poor scheduling. Or just take a taxi all the way.

Rickshaws in Dharamsala
- There are no auto-rickshaws in Lower Dharamsala unless used by someone coming down and going back up. No rickshaw driver comes down the mountain without a fare, and certainly without a guaranteed fare going back up
