For Australians In India:

    GETTING THERE

Getting to India from Australia is easy with direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney to New Delhi & Bengaluru, or via SE Asian hubs, Colombo, and China to all major cities. As with any Australian Cricket Tour To Asia or Africa, the cheapest flights are often the long way via Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar), or Abu Dhabi (Etihad) with multiple daily flights to major cities and smaller centres; Kochi, Ahmedabad, Nagpur, Trivandrum, & Hyderabad. Research all flights on:

Once in India travel between cricket cities is easy by Indian Railways or the big 7 domestic airlines (and 7 smaller regional). There's a wealth of long-distance buses but bring your earplugs and travel insurer on speed dial.

    AIRLINES IN INDIA

    INDIAN RAILWAYS

2001 was not our first foray on the mighty network, but that year we spent 272-hrs following the Australian Cricket Tour to 3 Tour Games, 3 Test Matches, and 5 ODI's. Two loops of the land from Mumbai to Nagpur to Mumbai to New Delhi to Varanasi to Kolkata to Chennai to Bengaluru to Pune to Indore to Visakhapatnam to Goa back to Mumbai. It was epic, enduring, and, more than anything, enlightening. Depending on your time, this heady experience should be done, albeit once.

Since the those days, service, time-tabling, network reach, and ticket-purchase has improved immensely making journeys far more comfortable, reliable, and easier. Ticketing in 2001 & 2004 was still analogue, requiring near-endless lining up to apply for a ticket. Today, Indian Railways is online and go everywhere, except Dharamsala (nearest station Pathankot (86km)) where flights from Delhi are your best option, though you can take a bus (see below).

    LONG-DISTANCE BUSES

When it comes to travelling by long-distance bus in India, you are not short of the cheapest means of round-the-clock travel. When following cricket however, you may never need it. In 1996 we took more buses than trains. There wasn't a train to Goa from Mumbai, or between Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, between Vadodara and Ahmedabad, or New Delhi and Chandigarh.

Several 'near-death' experiences are ingrained from overnight buses fraught with tired drivers, drunk drivers, and inflight entertainment at volumes that make Spinal Tap wish 10 was the highest. If you cannot get a train to the cricket in 2022 then Australia is not playing there. If you still want to save and brave the long and winding roads, aside lobbing at local bus stations for which big cities have multiple, research long distances bus timetables and fares on:

    CAR RENTALS

If you wish to brave Indian roads, research options on:
