Cricket in Barbados

Barbados is the Caribbean. From stretches of white sandy beaches and tranquil turquoise waters, some of the world's finest beach bars, refreshing Banks Beer and famed Mount Gay Rum, East Coast surf, sugar cane plantations, and deep cultural heritage, to the enthusiasm of the game at Kensington Oval, Barbados is spellbinding. Even if we do not play here on any future Australian Tour we will drop anchor anyway as one should not come to the Caribbean without experiencing Barbados.

Should Australia's West Indies Cricket Tour 2021 not include Barbados, you join us on a 4-night adventure to the coolest island in the Eastern Caribbean. 4 nights isn't enough knowing all there is to do but should Australia play cricket in Barbados, our tour will stretch to 7 sublime nights.

If flying with us from Antigua, your flight into Grantley Adams International Airport is included. You will however need proof of your flight off the island AND a return flight to your country of residence. Every Island is protective of its people and employment, none more than Barbados and so long as you have your paperwork you will be greeted as warmly as the island is all year!

After a welcome beverage at Frankie's Rum Shack opposite the airport, it won't be 15mins before we are in famed St Lawrence Gap, the nightlife and culinary 'hot spot' of the Caribbean, and with the island's highest concentration of hotels, resorts, and guesthouses smack on incredible Dover Beach.

Though we've just landed, if you want a very cool departure bar, Frankies' is it. And don't fret, it's just 100m from the outdoor check-in desks and British Airways Concorde (Mon-Sat 09:00-16:00)!

Barbados is known for its culinary diversity and the choice of restaurants, cafes, and bars in 'The Gap' is enough to keep you fed for two weeks without going to the same place twice. Married with the nightly street-side BBQs and bars, the atmosphere is buzzing as it always is at Oistins on weekends.

Friday & Saturday see locals & visitors swarm to 'Oistins Fish Fry' to indulge in the very best of Barbados's barbequed, grilled, & fried fish, fish cakes, and lots more. Live music, open bars, picnic bench seating, and very casual atmos make this a 'ripper night', the same said for driving around the island, an adventure we include!

32km long & 23km wide, the drive around this 'big island' is one of the region's best. Narrow roads wend north out of Bridgetown toward the exclusive Holetown on the West Coast. On our drive, we'll stop here for a swim at famed Sandy Lane Beach, before heading to Speightstown for lunch, before cutting inland up to North Point in delightfully named Parish of St Lucy, for refreshment.

Heading back through the island's centre and sugarcane plantations, we head to the East Coast and 'Pie Corner', down to The Savannah and onto Bathsheba, Barbados's surfing hot spot, before heading back to happy hour in The Gap!

With more than 130 listed heritage buildings and 30 UNESCO sites across the island, there is no shortage of sightseeing or events to spectate. Among regular race meets, The Sandy Lane Barbados Gold Cup at the Garrison Savannah is the island's 'Melbourne Cup' whereas if you like going underground, Harrison's Cave is the heart of a nation that is 'The Birthplace of Rum'.

When sugar was planted in 1640, settlers crudely distilled the harvest into a rough beverage aptly called 'Kill Devil'. This was indeed the early 'recipe' for today's silky Bajan Rum, Barbados's biggest export, and one of our biggest imports before a game at Kensington Oval; Mount Gay Distillery a short walk from the Oval. In plentiful supply, the industry sprouted the renowned 'rum shacks' that dot countlessly around the Island, providing many a reason to stop as you circumvent the pear-shaped land that is Beautiful Barbados.
