South Africa Braai
One of the beauties of going to the cricket in South Africa is the braai, or as we in Australia call it, the BBQ! Come 1pm during a day game, or 6pm at a day night game, the marvellous scent of grilling fauna wafts across the outfield.
So focussed on the break of play, all South Africa cricket stadiums have a braai area allowing you to cook your ownb. There is even a butcher shop at Wanderers Stadium Johannesburg (below), if you don't want to bring your own meat.
The last time Australia was scheduled to play a warm-up game at Senwes Park Cricket Stadium, Potchefstroom, the game was cancelled because of rain in the days prior.
Not to miss our chance to enjoy a staple South African feed, we went to the ground one afternoon, fired up the braai, and enjoyed a pleasant evening on the grass imagining what could have been had they not cancelled the game.
A tour game in Potch is always a fixture to look forward with relish, to relish the unique delight life in a South African test cricket ground.
