Cricket In Centurion

SuperSport Park Centurion was our 2nd South Africa venue, the 2nd Test of the Australian Cricket Tour To South Africa 1997; and what a delight it was, especially being let onto the field (above) at lunch. It's common in SA for this to happen, but Centurion is 2nd to Cape Town for unique views.

And speaking of unique, SuperSport Park has South Africa's best in-venue braai facilities (below), so pack your zebra chops and buffalo burgers, and grill 'your best cricket lunch, EVER', whilst watching players in the nets.

Nestled in a natural rural bowl 16km south of Pretoria and 38km north of Joburg's Wanderers Bullring, SuperSport Park is very-much in no-man's land, A nice no-man's land, nonetheless, but one still wonders why it was developed here. Back in the day you could only get here by road.

Nowadays, the safe & convenient Gautrain (HowTrain) runs from Johannesburg Park Station, through glitzy Rosebank, stylish Sandton, and cool Centurion to Pretoria, so you can get between these two big smokes easily and safely.

Gautrain also runs from O.R.Tambo Intl. Airport (JNB), past the landmark cooling stacks of Kelvin Power Station (below) north to Pretoria via Centurion, and south via Sandton and Rosebank into Joburg. You don't need a ticket, just a credit card.

That said, you won't need Gautrain when you fly into JNB as we'll meet & greet you, and transfer you to our hotel opposite SuperSport Park. Opposite being a 7mins walk door to door.

Our hotel (below) is not the youngest about, but is certainly the closest to the cricket which is why we are here.

Importantly, all hotel tours include a reserved seat so you don't have to rush to get in. We've watched a lot of cricket from the Centurion embankments, but you are either looking straight into the sun, flush at square leg (below), or with no elevation over the game.

Unlike Cape Town, we DON'T offer grass tickets at Centurion, but you can upgrade your reserved seat to enjoy the game from our hospitality suite, which is all inclusive of food, drinks, and comfort at fine leg.

When you join us at Centurion, you'll have 8-nights, including 3-nights before the test; timed so you arrive from Australia at 6-8pm, leaving two full days before the test to recover or sightsee.

With the station (above) 8 mins walk around the corner, jump on the Gautrain, which is 'Really Brilliant' (as the sign above says) to Pretoria to see Union Buildings and statue of Nelson Mandela, and amazing Market At The Shed for live music, street foods, and crafts. You can also visit our old mate, infamous Harry 'Breaker' Morant in Pretoria's Church Street Cemetery (below).

South of Pretoria is mighty Voortrekker Monument, the cultural home to the Afrikaner, which is best reached by Uber from the hotel or Pretoria Railway Station.

It is a ticketed monument!

Or, catch Gautrain south to Rosebank for the City Sightseeing 'Hop-On Hop-Off' Bus. This is most convenient and safest way to 'see Joburg', Apartheid Museum, and Nelson Mandela Foundation. They also have a splendid guided art-gallery tour.

For one 'must do' destination, take the City Sightseeing SoWeTo (South West Townships) Tour for Mandela House MuseumVilakasi Street, and street performers (below). Details and very affordable pricing are online.

If you want to just 'hang at the hotel', Centurion Mall is next door, in which you find restuarants, supermarkets, and other shopping conveniences, not that you are here to shop!

Though kind of isolated, we are only 10-12mins walk or A$2-3 in an Uber from plenty of wining & dining choices. In fact we are closer to the Kapstad Brauhaus (Cape Town Brewhouse) in Centurion than our Cape Town hotel is to the one in Cape Town (below).

We've always enjoyed watching cricket at SuperSport Park and 2026 should be no different. It is a relaxed ground with one grand stand framed by lush embankment on which to put your feet up for 5 cool days of Test Cricket.
