NAMIBIA ROAD TRIP

Spectacular Namibia has been in our Top 3 nations to travel since our visit in 1997. We are stoked to finally include Namibia in an Australian Cricket Tour to South Africa.

We could invest one month in Namibia, with much back-tracking, and not cover it all, so 13 nights barely scratches the very big surface.

Chameleon Safaris will showcase the best of Namibia from the moment we fly into Windhoek (Vind-Hook), the day after the Cape Town Test (date TBC).

We'll get you to the sands of Sossusvlei, the Skeleton Coast and Swakopmund, Himba tribes of Damaraland, stunning Etosha National Wildlife Park, rugged Waterberg Plateau Park, and back to Windhoek.

An economy flight to Windhoek is included, but you are responsible for your flight from Windhoek. See Qantas Flights Home at the bottom.

The listed hotels may change through availability once the Australian Cricket Tour to South Africa 2026 is confirmed, and we know when we can visit Namibia.

With much to 'make up as we go', this is the 'Executive Summary' of our epic trip.

Day 1 | Le Mirage Desert Lodge (TBC)

Arriving at 1pm (Airlink) from Cape Town, we will be met by our Chameleon Guide, bundled into our truck and driven to the startling sand dunes of Sossusvlei. It's a 5 hours drive, so enjoy lunch on the plane and we'll snack on the way.

We have three nights and two full days to explore this 'orange' region. We're still chatting with Chameleon about what's best for each day, and to avoid 12 hour days trying to do 'everything'.

Dinner and drinks included at the stunning lodge.

Day 2 | Le Mirage Desert Lodge (TBC)

Sunrise or sunset hike up the dunes to be determined, if not once we are there. The morning or afternoon will be yours, with lunch & dinner included at the hotel.

Excursions to other areas are still TBD.

Day 3 | Le Mirage Desert Lodge (TBC)

Sunrise or sunset hike up the dunes to be determined, if not once we are there. The morning or afternoon will be yours, with lunch & dinner included at the hotel.

Excursions to other areas are still TBD.

Day 4 | Swakopmund Beach Hotel (TBC)

After breaky we drive through Namib-Naukluft National Park to Swakopmund, and the eerie Skeleton Coast. We'll lunch on the way as we stop at the signature points of interest, to arrive by 5pm.

Dinner and drinks at a restaurant in town.

Day 5 | Swakopmund Beach Hotel (TBC)

This is a day of relaxation after a long drive yesterday, and a big drive tomorrow. Sit by the pool, beach, or explore the bizarrely 'more German than Berlin', Swakopmund. We may go to Walvis Bay (30mins) and do a boat ride on the bay, but this we're still chatting to Chameleon about this.

Lunch, dinner and drinks at the hotel.

Day 6 | Twyfelfontein Lodge (TBC)

After an early breaky, we drive through the hauntingly stark Skeleton Coast National Park. We'll stop at Cape Cross seal colony, Zeila Shipwreck, and Himba Tribe before settling into the flash Twyfelfontein Country Lodge for two nights, with dinner and drinks included.

Day 7 | Twyfelfontein Lodge (TBC)

Another casual day after a sleep-in. We'll do an afternoon ephemeral (dry) river drive, see rock engravings and art, and return for sundowners and dinner.

Day 8 | Okaukeujo Resort

At the western gate of magnificent Etosha National Park we'll have two nights at Okaukuejo, famed for its floodlit waterhole. Grab a seat, put your feet up and watch the animal kingdom come for refreshment.

We'll have dinner and drinks at the camp.

Day 9 | Okaukeujo Resort

A morning game drive when the gates open, we'll be back for lunch and an afternoon by the pool before darkness calls for the waterhole to be lit, following dinner and drinks.

Day 10 | Namutoni Resort

A full day game drive after breaky, along the south of Etosha pan will take us to Namutoni Resort at Etosha's east gate, where we will settle in for one night, with dinner and drinks included.

Day 11 | Waterberg Plateau Park Resort

After another morning game drive, leaving irrepressive Etosha we turn towards Windhoek stopping for two nights at mighty Waterberg Plateau Park, renown for its rare animals including black rhino and over 200 species of birds.

Dinner and drinks at the resort.

Day 12 | Waterberg Plateau Park Resort

We'll take a morning drive through the park, and scale the plateau for spectacular views of eastern Namibia and the Kalahari Desert. We'll have a final night shindig before packing our bags to leave for Windhoek the following morning.

Day 13 | Windhoek (Hotel TBC)

It is only 3 hours to Windhoek, so unless you are flying today at 2pm onwards, we will leave Waterberg at 9am and drive to Windhoek International Cricket Stadium, to tick the box on another spectacular far away cricket ground, before lunch.

The hotel for tonight is TBC depending on your flight home (today or tomorrow).

Day 14 | Windhoek (TBC)

After a leisurely breakfast we will get you to Hosea Kutako International Airport for your onward flight and where we say goodbye after what we trust was an awesome tour.

Qantas Flights Home:

If you are leaving Namibia and connecting in Johannesburg to Qantas, book your QF flight from Windhoek to PER | SYD | MEL | BNE | etc... .

Qantas codeshares with Airlink from Windhoek (and a dozen other airports).

If you have a Qantas flight number on your Airlink ticket, your bag will be checked through to Australia and you won't have to clear South Africa immigration to recheck your bag.

Importantly, if your flight is delayed out of Windhoek and you miss your Qantas connection, Qantas will help you in Joburg. If you book separate tickets and Airlink is late, Qantas can't (won't) help as you were not on a QF operated by Airlink.

If you are a slave to Star Alliance, the same applies to booking South African Airways out of Windhoek with onward connection to Australia with SAA on the same ticket.
