I Want My Foxtel

Australian Cricket Tours - At The National Stadium Karachi Displaying My Australia Flag And 'I Want My Foxtel' Sign, In 1998 | Karachi | Pakistan

The Australian Cricket Tour of Pakistan 1998, was a tour filled with many cricket records and fond memories. Not only was I one of very few to see Mark Taylor's 334* in Peshawar in Arbab Niaz Stadium, but I was one of very few people to be seen at the ground on TV in Australia.

The 1998 Tour of Pakistan was the first time Australians could only watch the cricket on Foxtel, ending Joe Public's 'free to air' pleasures watching Australian Cricket from around the world. With only 410,000 subscribers in 1998 meant not too many 'houesholds' could watch the Foxtel sponsored Australian Cricket Team win in Pakistan for the first time in 39 years.

With a mere handful of Australians at each match, there was strong chance I would be regularly 'seen on TV'. As such, I looked to subsidise my Cricket Tour with a spot of 'ambush marketing' by painting a Foxtel sign to display. I was hoping Foxtel would reward me with a 'free subscription' but sadly, Foxtel execs just sat back and enjoyed my free promo.

That said, more than 22 years later, "I STILL Want My Foxtel". Please???
