Cricket In India 2027

India is tough!

India is filled with unknowns & uncertainty, endurance & exhaustion, disappointment & disbelief.

We love it!

Cricket in India showcases the game and nation that you may not see otherwise. It is a madhouse of frustration, annoyance, intrigue, and wonder, rolled into frenzy filled stadiums that always sell out*!

The noise, atmosphere, passion, the noise, should be experienced across the land; not just quiet & calm Dharamsala. Alas, we are not playing Dharamsala in 2027 but we are visiting the next best place, Guwahati (Go-arti)

Since Australia sensationally beat India 2-1 in 2004, Australia has only won two tests in India; Pune 2017 and Indore 2023. Such 'poor form' doesn't mean you shouldn't dip you toe!

Granted, India is much easier to travel now than our first foray in 1996, with everything from rickshaws to match tickets* now bookable before you leave home. But, it is still India with 1.5 billion people trying to get somewhere, do something, or watch cricket in an area marginally larger than Western Australia.

India can be extremely daunting & debillitating, especially travelling alone, but don't fret, this is where we come in. The Australian Cricket Tour to India 2027 will be our 24th visit, so our vast experience of this wild cricket nation is what makes us invaluable.

We will help you get the best from India, whether you come for one test or all five, played over a packed 7 weeks.

India 2027 Cricket Schedule

The Australian Cricket Tour to India 2027 schedule is now confirmed.

  • 1st Test | Nagpur | Jan 21-25
  • 2nd Test | Chennai | Jan 29-Feb 2
  • Add-On Tour | Feb 3-9 | 6 Nights
  • 3rd Test | Guwahati | Feb 11-15
  • 4th Test | Ranchi | Feb 19-23
  • 5th Test | Ahmedabad | Feb 27-Mar 3

The BCCI are notorious for late confirmation and then changing it on a whim, so although you may book flights now, be prepared for change!

HOT TIP: Book flexible flights to/from India! Once you've booked 'cheapest available', the ever-demoralising India schedule change may require you to arrive earlier, leave later, re-route, or even cancel!

The Australian Cricket Tour to India 2013 schedule was announced on Dec 14, 2012 for a series starting Feb 22, 2013. On January 8, 2013, the schedule was flipped. 1st Test became the 4th, 4th became 1st, along with swapping 2nd & 3rd Tests.

This is why we no longer include domestic flights between venues! See 'Getting To & Through India' below.

#Madness

If you haven't experienced an India schedule change, imagine the 2013 fallout once everyone had booked flights into New Delhi for the 1st Test. You'd have thought lessons were learned, but no. The same 'flip' happened in 2017.

#Madness

We endeavour to learn of schedule changes before they happen but do know that Indian cricket schedules change without warning as they did in 2023 (and every year since 2001) because the ground (below) was not fit for purpose. What was worst about 2023 was that the 3rd Test was not changed until AFTER the series had started.

#BallAche

We can't control these changes so do not blame us, like some in 2023, for the evil machinations of the BCCI that effect your confirmed travel plans. They effect ours too.

Why Tour With Us?

Firslty; we are there for the game. If no one tours with us, we are still going. Other groups cancel if they won't make money, but we'll still go because there's cricket to watch.

Secondly; experience, preparation, understanding, and knowledge of watching cricket in India.

Our first India tour was Cricket World Cup 1996 and 30 years later an Australian Cricket Tour to India is one of our most impassioned.

We toured alone in 1996 but decades later there is an ever-growing lust by an ever-growing number of people that want us to help them experience the 'madness of India'.

We first hosted an Australian Cricket Tour to India 2001; the famous 'follow-on' Test of Kolkata. We inspired other groups to brave India in 2004 and they've been following our suit ever since.

We may be copied but what elevates us is our experience and understanding of India. We love watching cricket in India and base our tours on making it easier for you to do the same, in the fashion that we like to do it.

We don't employ 3rd party India based tour operators to create a cliche tour program. We go to India before each tour to discover, learn, and create our own tours based on where we've been and what we've seen.

To prepare for 2027 we did a four week tour of India last April so we know exactly where you are going. We walk the walk so we can talk the talk.

We just don't find pretty hotels in which to hide for one week, and then ask if you enjoyed India. We seek dive bars, greasy spoon cafes, food streets, roof top restaurants, craft brewhouses, and markets synonomous with India, which you won't experience on other tours, and all of which we believe will help you enjoy India more.

We deliver a genuine flavour of India street life and society. If you want to stay at the hotel bar, you are more than welcome. We simply offer a unique alternative.

We tour each city well-before the first ball to understand life around the hotel & ground. It isn't just about getting to & from a flashy hotel and the game. Very little stays the same in India, and why it is important for us to know the change, for your benefit.

Importantly we visit each ground and sit in the very seats that we will book from each India State Cricket association. You are there for the cricket so we need to know your best available view of the game.

We also go to understand if we need to drive you to and from the game. Transfers aren't always convenient in India, with traffic snarls delaying your bus up, yet the same gridlock won't hinder your 'PAYG' auto-rickshaw ride!

#Preparation

And just as India changes, so do we. We always do different things, and do the same things differently each tour; albeit choosing a new hotel or side-trip destination.

Far from our Australian Cricket Tour To India 2001, in 2027 we only stay at 5-star hotels*, include airport transfers, match tickets & transfers (where req.), dinner parties, apparel, and more.

India Cricket Tour 2027

When you join our Australian Cricket Tour To India 2027 our goal is to make your brief time in this vast country as hassle-free, affordable, and straight-forward as possible.

Hassles in India are common but tempered when endured with awesome people.

Though capable of 'doing it themselves', many regularly tour with us not because they need their hand held, but because they love watching cricket with us and the people we tour with. We focus on bringing people together at the game, safely and comfortably.

Being a 5 Test Series over 7 weeks, each test match tour will be 8-nights, with an optional add-on tour after the 2nd Test.

We offer 8 night tours so you can fly in from Australia late on night one, and spend the next two days recovering from your travel or exploring where you are, before the Test.

The time vanishes in a flash, but 8-nights per test is to standardise our program. We leave Day 6 of each test and thus arrive into each city 3 nights before each test.

You can book one test, all five, or a few in the middle. It's your tour, so book what best suits your time. Some will tour for 7 weeks, whereas others will come for just one test match only.

If you can only stay 7 or less nights there is no reduction in the tour cost as each hotel has been booked for paid for the 8 nights included in each tour.

#YourChoice

If our hotel tours are not your chai, book your own hotel and then Match Tickets to make it easier and more affordable for you to remain solo yet still enjoy Australian Cricket in India with us.

Getting To, Through, And From India 2027

Is entirely up to you.

People join us from all over the world so must make your own way to India. Your tour will start when we meet you at the airport on arrival.

What's bad about the Australian Cricket Tour to India 2027 schedule is that you cannot fly direct into any match city from Australia; every venue is at least ONE stop.

Direct flights from Melbourne and Sydney with Qantas into New Delhi and Bengaluru, and connecting with Indigo codeshare flights makes India infinitely easier for rusted-on QFF's than in 2023.

Qantas codeshares with Indigo from Bengaluru to Nagpur (1st Test) but not from New Delhi to Nagpur, even though there is timely connecting flight. Thus, when you search Melbourne to Nagpur on Qantas, you will be routed via Sydney and Bengaluru on QF's Indigo flight to Nagpur.

#MoreStatusCredits

When you fly into India we will meet you at the airport, which may be AFTER your domestic connection, three nights before each Test and transfer you to the hotel.

Excluding your day of arrival, you will have two full days in each city before Day 1 of each test match.

Many flights depart India through the night so you can book a flight home on the night of Day 5 or early morning Day 6, without worrying about needing an extra night, or having to hang about for an evening flight on Day 6.

If you book a flight home on the evening of Day 6, you may need an extra night.

DOMESTIC TRAVEL

NO DOMESTIC TRAVEL INCLUDED!

You are responsible for getting between venues. The cancelled 2023 Dharamsala Test taught us to no longer include flights between venues. When the BCCI change the schedule, as rough as it sounds, that hassle falls on you.

The only direct flight between tests is Ranchi to Ahmedabad. All other tests require a flight connection confirming that this schedule is just as bad in the air as it is on the ground!

HOT TIP: Book Indigo 'Upfront' or any other airline's most expensive ticket. The cost is negligible to receive flexibility, cancellation, 20kg, food, and seat choice. All low-cost carriers in India have a blanket 15kg baggage allowance and you will be charged per 500g over, so pay an extra A$30-A$50 per flight and remove any aggro.

After flying into Nagpur on Jan 17 on Qantas (Indigo) via Bengaluru, we are on these Indigo flights. You can book the same, or your preferred flight, but we will get you to the airport the day after each test, whichever time you depart.

Hotels In India

Global giants such as Hyatt, Radisson, Hilton, and Marriott are commonplace. So too Indian brands with exemplery services standards such as Oberoi, Taj, Vivanta, Leela, LaLit, and ITC.

Not every brand is in every city, let alone near the cricket stadium, which is preferable but not always possible. Even touring India as often as we do, we pre-tour each hotel to decide whose pillows to fight with.

The choice is broad, but where available we choose 4 or 5 star hotels, whose primary difference may only be the size of the entrance fountain.

Some 4-star hotels closer to the venue can be more expensive than distant 5-star hotels so we often step down and pay for convenience.

Our India 2027 hotels are linked on each page for you to browse and decide if you'd like to join us. We believe you should know where you are staying, whereas others broadly state, 'quality hotels throughout' . If you don't want to stay at our chosen hotel, book your preferred and then Match Tickets.

Australian_Cricket_Tourists_Pool_Reflection_On_The_Roof_Of_Golden_Tulip_Hotel_Jaipur_India_Australian_Cricket_Tours_2

Twin-Sharing Hotel Rooms

We stopped offering 'twin-share with anyone' after Sri Lanka 2022, as we simply didn't get the demand with most people now choosing single rooms.

Knowing it was expensive, we re-introduced random 'twin-sharing' on the Australian Cricket Tour of the West Indies 2025 to help people 'split the cost'.

Our Australian Cricket Tour to India 2027 is pricier than 2023, but nowhere near West Indies 2025 or Cape Town 2026, so we have kept random twin-sharing.

If you select 'twin-room | two-beds | one person' we will partner you with someone that booked the same. If you do not want to share a room with a stranger, select 'single room | one bed | one person'.

Match Tickets India 2027

**There are no ticket refunds in India under any circumstance.
Understanding that, please read on!**

With the exception of Ahmedabad, ALL venues in India SELL OUT by virtue of them ONLY selling 5-day tickets. If you only want to go to one day, you must buy a 5-day ticket.

This is still normal practice at the time of writing.

  • DO NOT ASK FOR SINGLE DAY TICKETS
  • If you only want to come for 1, 2 or 3 days buy 5-Day Match Tickets and donate unwanted tickets to kids, your taxi driver, or hotel staff, etc... . They won't come, they never do, but will love the gesture!

When you hear commentators say the venue is SOLD OUT but only see 5000 people it's because the other 20000+ are coming Days 2, 3, 4 and/or 5.

When you join our Australian Cricket Tour To India 2027 you will receive match tickets, sourced from each State Cricket Association venue during our pre-tour tour last April, to all 5 Days Of Each Test.

*There are no reserved seats at Test Matches in India*

Seats are shaded for much if not all the day, looking up and down the wicket.

Many grounds in India have very high rooves so early morning or late afternoon sun may peek under. Test Cricket starts at 0900am in Guwahati and 0930am elsewhere so 'early morning' sun is just that, early!

  • In 2023 all seats in all venues were shaded for the day's entirety, looking up & down the wicket

Hospitality

Air-conditioned hospitality, which may include alcohol (TBC), will be available once we confirm with each venue. Until then, book your match tickets and we will contact you to upgrade to hospitality.

Cricket Tickets Online

Match tickets will be much if you book online through the venue. When? We don't know, but we don't need to know, so please don't ask. We sourced our tickets from each State Cricket Association venue during our pre-tour tour last April so we're OK.

Should you have success in the feeting moment they are available, you must then take your confirmation to the box office to swap for physical tickets. You can avoid that hassle by buying match tickets from us to collect at our hotel on the day before the game.

  • If you are not booking our hotel tour or match tickets, do not ask where to buy tickets, or when public sales open
  • Our match tickets include premiums applied by the venue and the convenience of you buying now and not worrying about missing out
  • Under any circumstance, there is no ticket refund

Add-On & Day Trips

India has amazing sights, sounds, festivals, and fanfare in most cities, most of the time. India is huge and it is impossible to see everything, notwithstanding it takes a seriously long time to get places, which is why we no longer include or even organise day-trips.

If a test ends early we will suggest things to do, but even the 'shortest' of day trips can get you back well-after dark. Visit a nearby monument, museum, or market, but we recommend avoiding long-distance adventures.

*In 2013 a group took a day-trip from New Delhi to Jaipur. Leaving at 0700am, they returned after midnight, not 7pm, after missing most of Jaipur.*

With the exception of after Chennai, there is only 3 days break between tests. With too much to do in too little time, we move on Day 6 of each test to the next venue, and that's it. There is enough to find and enjoy in each city.

Hawa_Mahal_Palace_Of_The_Winds_Jaipur_India_Australian_Cricket_Tours

Taj Mahal 2027

On every Australian Cricket Tour to India, we have visited the Taj Mahal, whether on a 3-night stay, or fleeting 7 hours as we had in 2023 on our way to Rajasthan.

No matter how often we visit this stunning monument, we always want to see it again, but we will not include 'The Taj' in 2027. You can do it in a day by bus or taxi from New Delhi Airport, train from New Delhi, or flight into Agra from/via Bengaluru, Hyderabad, or Mumbai before or after a test match.

The Agra only Gatimaan Express takes 100mins, so you can leave New Delhi at 8am and be back by 8pm. Up to 61 trains per day roll from Delhi to Agra, taking up to 4 hours, costing between A$3-A$23 one-way.

The Taj Mahal is closed EVERY Friday

Indian Railways

If you've never travelled on India's giant life-line, or even been to India, 'Indian Railways' is not 000's of people covering the roof, or clinging to doors & open windows. Those images you muster are trains delivering mass-market pilgrims to city outskirt events; they're not your every-day long-distance commuter rakes.

From high-speed first class, 6 hour double-decked commuters, to slow days-long mail trains, the spectrum is a broad, fascinating, safe, comfy, and affordable.

Our April 2026 experience was far from our best with every train heavily delayed; one so delayed I booked a flight for the following morning and went back to a hotel. As such we don't recommend using Indian Railways if you are pushing time to reach a venue.

We are registered on the Indian Railways app and can book your preferred trains in a flash if you don't wish to run the gauntlet of attempting self-booking.

If you travel India independently, we recommend First Class Air-Con (1A) with bedding included.

The most you pay is A$130 for 33 hours and two nights from New Delhi to Bengaluru, including all meals, on the Rajdhani Express. Slower 1st Class trains (40+ hours) without meals or bedding are approx A$100.
