Cricket in Colombo
It will be disappointing if Australia and Sri Lanka do not play Test Cricket in either Kandy or Galle, but playing in Colombo will not disappoint; even lacking the lushness of Kandy and the beaches of Galle.
'Capital Colombo' is very underrated. Touring here since 1999, we've never had a bad time in Sri Lanka's capital, and trust you won't either. It's super-easy to navigate the region's best pubs, restaurants & bars. Shopping is exhaustive & affordable, people smiling & helpful, buses & rickshaws are everywhere to take you anywhere, and Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) is one of Test Cricket's nicest.
When you join us in Colombo 2022, our cool hotel will collect you from Bandaranaike International Airport. If coming with us from Kandy or Galle, then travel to Colombo will be included, along with 8 nights and breakfast and a glorious infinity pool and popular bar & restaurant on the 28th-floor rooftop.
We will host a rooftop dinner party the night before the test when you will receive match tickets, Bent Banani Shirts, and advice on the best way to reach our spirited game of Test Cricket in our favourite country to tour. It is just 25mins walk to the SSC and even closer to the great Cricket Club Cafe. Governed by delightful Gabby & James from Melbourne, we will hit this famous Sri Lankan landmark more than once!
After the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, security has naturally increased but Colombo remains safe as a 'norm', and tourism investment has not waned. Compared with our first tour in 1999, you can now visit all areas of Fort that were previously off-limits. The military base opposite Galle Face Green is now a 541 room 35-floor hotel with a shopping mall, cinemas, restaurants, bars, and cafes.
This development is alongside innumerable hotel & apartment towers re-shaping Colombo's skyline as will Colombo Financial City on 2.7sqkm reclaimed land adjacent Galle Face. The 356m Lotus Tower, is now Colombo's primary tourist attraction. 10+ years ago a 'tower' would never have been considered, let alone built. Asia's tallest self-supporting structure is now another reason to visit this energetic capital.
If Colombo is the only Test Match in Sri Lanka you can enjoy, do so with the convenience of having all you need on your doorstep in a cracking city.
Share our long-lived passions such as strolling to the cricket, enjoying sundowners at Galle Face Hotel, playing golf at Royal Colombo, indulging on Park Street Mews, bargaining at Pettah floating market, or browsing colourful Pettah opposite Fort Railway Station. Sourcing the best grind is harder now than it was in 1999 with a blast of boutique and big-name cafes to keep the heart beating.
Join us in a fun & vibrant city, as always with great people, and take away fond memories of a great cricket tour in Capital Colombo.
